Things to know about when you want to get started as a college club and participate on the College Club level.
When is best to apply for as club/team with USA Cycling?
Depends, some schools will just apply at the beginning of the school year if they just focus on the MTB season, other programs will register at the beginning of the calendar year to allow for students to compete in other disciplines outside of MTB.
How long does the application process take usually?
Depends on when we receive the application, but generally speaking please allow for a day or two for us to process.
What kind of documentation do you need when we apply?
We will need the application form (only for the first year, you can then renew online) and then the eligibility document (which we will need every year when the club renews):

How often are races?
Depends on the conference, but usually it would be every other weekend.
USA Cycling will provide a current list of Collegiate racing nationwide on our website, which you can review here.
How often do events take up more than one day?
Generally they are all two day events, Saturday would be dedicated to XC racing and then Sunday would be DH. And then for the Road discipline, road race and TTs are Saturday and Sunday are crits.
Typically, how do teams arrange accommodations for multiple-day events?
Depends on the club, some clubs will opt for camping if it is available, others will find hotels or Airbnb’s depending on what students have to work with in terms of a housing budget.
I can see that each athlete pays $60 for their collegiate license, are their other fees that I need to make sure students are aware that would need to be paid to USA Cycling?
For each athlete the only cost to them will be the race license which right now is 60 dollars (potentially subject to change). There are different memberships or other licenses that students could purchase if they want to pursue a different avenue of the sport, but again the bare minimum would be the 60 dollar collegiate license.
Are their entry fees to each race, if so, what are those fees typically?
There will be entry fees to race. Most race organizers that put on collegiate races understand that these athletes and programs are working in a tight budget and prices will be reasonable. For example this year in the Rocky Mountain conference, The CMU Rumble race and Pagan Pedal, set their entry fees at 35 dollars per one race entry. Entry fees will also fluctuate year to year, discipline to discipline, but I would budget for 35 – 50 dollars per athlete per race. The one outlier to this would be USA Cycling Nationals, which registration per athlete per race will be over 100 dollars.
